Las Jardines - Week 9

March 28, 2016

So what exactly happened this week?
Its all a blurr, we worked hard and we preached the Restored Gospel of Jesucristo!

This week was Semana Santa and everyone here loves Semana Santa (Holy Week? Im not really sure if we say that in english..). The Catholic people all climb the hill Cerro San Cristobal, im not really sure why but thats what they do! Also there are people who dress up like Jesus and the Santos and walk around the streets with giant crosses with a hoard of people following them and everyonce in a while they stop adn recite their prayers and sing. Also everyone eats fish.

As misioneras we celebrate Semana Santa a liiiitle bit differently. We share the message that Cristo came to this earth. He taught the people, loved the people, and served the people. Jesucristo atoned for our sins and died for us, so that we may become wloe in Cristo. But we also share the message that He lives! He ressurected, and because He lives we will live again too. "For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive." (1 cor 15:22

Also we walk alot- just not up the hills.

This week we have found some really cool people that are really interested in our message- we just gotta get em to church, thats the tricky part....

But this weekend is General Conference! WOOHOOO! And we already have a ton of poeple lined us ready to listed to the words of the profet and the other leaders of the church!

Yeah so the church is super true, but not only is it true but it is the only true church and the only church that has the authority of God here on the earth. How cool is that! Its great. I love it. The mish is rockin and im here in Lima livin it up like no other!

Las Jardines - Week 8

Here, they love to shove cake in your face
at your yearly checkpoint!
March 21, 2016

Well this week I got an ugly redneck, farmers tan sunburn, tripped about 500 times (still clumsy as ever), got tricked into eating nasty cow parts, and turned 20 years young!!

This week was a good one. Weird things always happen with hermana Sanchez by my side, just makes life a bit more interesting!  For example, one day we were walking in the park and saw a big black trash bag (it looked inflated) in a park. I wanted to see what was under it so i started walking towards it and somebody started yelling at me! And that somebody was in the trash bag! Why? We have no idea...

This week we also had entravistas with President. Ahhh so great, I love talking with president y hermana Larson.

We are running around here in Los Jardines like crazy people. This sunday we had several of our investigators come to church which was great- but only 1 stayed for all three hours.... But progress is progress! Yeah well sorry I dont really know what else to sayyyy! The mission is great I love being here walking among the Limanites and sharing this marvellous Gospel of eternal peace joy and happiness!

Also im 20 now! It was weird i just woke up one day and I saw the world in different colores and the food tasted foodier, My tallness felt a little tallier, and I just seemed to know everything and have all the answers to all the questions. It was a nice experience.

Also check out this super great video about Easter and about our Salvador Jesucristo.  https://www.mormon.org/easter
Ok love you all so much!

Las Jardines - Week 7

March 14, 2016
Selfie with Faux Chocolate Tree

Well there were changes over here in the middle of desolate San Juan de Lurigancho. Hermana Moffett got transferred to LAS BRISAS!! but not to my old sector (Las brisas 2) she went to las brisas 1, but the same barrio. Also in to other companionship of hermanas here in the zone- hermana paz and hermana sanches- hermana paz got transferred. And now my new companion is Hermana Sanchez!! They took out both of our companions and put Hermana Sanchez and I together! Now between the two of us we have two sectors to work in!  Were super excited and super exhausted! Now that there is just Los Jardines (There was los jardines 1 &2) we are doing a lot more walking between the two sectors, also we had to move into the new room so we were lugging refrigerators, boxes of books, maletas, desks, every little thing up and down the shair where we live to get everything all together and organized. But it was fun and we are super excited to have this oppurtunity to work in the two sectors and make them one!

So this week i really dont remember what happened, its all kinda a blurr. Im getting to know the people from Hermana sanchezs sector and shes gettign to know the people in my sector. Its great the work is great, sorry I dont have too many details :)

Today we went to centro de lima to do a little shoppy shoppin and we found this cute little chocolate museo and got ourselves some delicious chocolates, cause we are hermanas and we love chocolate.

Also everyone that is going through a litttle bit of a rough patch or a hard time (seriously probably everyone) just needs to take a little 5 minute break from life, sit down with your favorite type of chocolate adn a Book of Mormon adn just read for 5 minutes. Seriously the Book of Mormon is so special and can lift your spirits, change your day around, feel peace and tranquilidad, and so so much more. The mision is hard, heck life is hard. But Dios knows that!  Any for that reason we have tools to help us along in life. I love the Book of Mormon and the oppurtunity that I have here in Lima to share it with people every day, so that they can find answers to their questions, pease in their lives, and eternal happiness. What a blessing it is to have the Santa Biblia and El Libro de Mormon!
Love the mission!

Las Jardines - Week 6

Fun contacting practice - hahaha!
March 7, 2016

Hey yall. Im sick! I just have some kinda yucky head cold, but its not fun. My nose is stuffy and my head is throbbing and I sound like I smoke 2 packs a day. I keep hearing my moms voice in my head saying "Blow your nose Sara!" But im feeling better, blowing my nose on a regular basis and truing not to cough up a lung.

This week was super good- as always. Not a whole lot happened- we walked, taught, found some cool new people, walked some more, taught some more, took a water break (cause its hot) found some more, and then eventually we sleep.

some things...
1. There is this gym that we pass all the time full of little peruvian guys pumping iron, one day we passed by (there is a giant window the length of the wall) and someone yelled "Hoootdooog!". I was confused and then I asked H Moffett if she heard that and she started laughing and told me that he yelled "guappaaa" haha i guess that does make more sense.

2. We have this investigador named Orlando that is just the cutest old man (hes really not that old) that came to church sunday! Sundays are always a little stressfull cause a lot depends on if your investigators come to church or not. We arrived at church adn we had one investigator there (but shes waiting to get divorced to get married to get baptized which takes forevvvver here) and no one else. So we were feeling pretty down when church started. We were fasting that out investigators could come to church but we werent really seeing that that was gonna happen that sunday. So we started the sacrament and I was really praying hard that someone would come, or that I could know what else I can do to really help these investigators progress. We took the sacrament and I just felt all my nerves and stress melt away as I focusud on the sacrament and what it really met. Sacrament ended and then they opened the doors and in walks 4 of our investigators! We jumped up and ran and opened the dividers and got some chairs for them and we all sat down adn listened to testimonies. Out of the 5 that were there only 2 were able to stay for all 3 hours (1 asistencia is all 3 hours) It was really great, Orlando met el obispo and made some friends and really enjoyed the classes and told us that he learned alot. And Raquel (our other investigator) was able to go to her class the 2nd hour (normally she would just stay in nursery with her little girl) and then the third hour we sat with her in nersurey with her daughter Emily and were able to teach her.

Picture of our street taken from our apartment window
It was really nice to see all of our walking and teaching and testifying pay off that sunday. We only had two that were able to stay for all three hours, but every single one of us is important and special in the eyes of our Heavenly Father. We we so excited to see them show up at church not becuase it counts as one asistencia but we can really see that they want to learn more and that their testimonies de Jesucristo are really growing bit by bit. I love the mission, its ridiculously hard at times, but here I have really been able to see people grow closer to nuestro Slvador Jesucristo y a nuestro amoroso Padre Celestial.  Love the Church, and the restored Gospel of Jesucristo que tenemos.

Dios les Bendigas!

haha also this week I shared Moroni 9:8 with a menos activa (her name is Magali and she has 19 years) We were just talking about crime shows and crazy serial killer people and she said that she didnt have that much time to read the Libro de mormon cause shes reading some serial killer psycology book. So I showed her that verse adn she got really excited. then we read a nice pretty verse about faith. The Book of Mormom is so cool!

Las Jardines - Week 5

February 29, 2016

Los Cerros - very humble neighborhoods
Hello all, here I am finally writing this email after walking around for almost 40 minutes trying to find internet. "Why was it so hard to find internet?" you may ask.... well you see ther are 5 million adolecent boys in every single internet playing stuped internet video games. Finally we found some computers....but it still smells like teenage boy armpit in here.

This week was really great we did a lot of stuff and saw a lot of miracles. And im really tired. Today is pday and we went to Centro de Lima and did a bit of shopping and then we went to the catacumbas. There we learned a lot about the catholic church and saw a bunch of bones. Also for some reason it smelled like garlic in there.

Things that happened this week.
  • The power went off in about half of our sector- at night. That was terrifying. But we ran to the other side where there was light, so were still alive.
  • We contacted a lady last week adn then se saw here again in the street and she invited us in to talk to her and then she brought out her husband- a pastor from some iglesia evangélica to "talk" about what we believe. It was intereting, thouse guys really like to talk. Its crazy how close they are to the whole complete truth, they  just need the Book of Mormon!
  • We got to stay in nursery for two hours of church cause one o four investigators has a little crazy kid and she works every day till late. SO one of us taught her while the other kept the little one occupied. It was tricky, but it was really great.
  • 23598236 things happened but my brain is fried and im to tired to remember. But one day im sure if you ask waht happened this week ill be able to tell you in perfect detain, but today is not that day.
The church is true, San Juan is hot. San Juan is also a place. The Book of Mormon is my favorite book ever because it is really really cool, and also cause wehn I read it I fell my Saviors love, I feel that I am a daughter of God adn that he has a divine plan for me and for each one of us. I find answers to my questions, doubts, worries. It lifts me up when I feel down, and it lifts me up higher when I am happy. But the thing that I love the most is that its writtin for me and for every single one of us individually adn here in teh mision I can really see how this little book can change peoples lives. Love love loove the Book of Mormon, and you should too!

Las Jardines - Week 4

February 22, 2016
Alexandra on her baptism day!

Well this week was a good one! I dont remember a whoole lot about what happened but I do remember a few things....

1. Hna moffett gave herself a nice little bruise on her face. Here in the mornings we have 30 minutes to excercise. 6:30-7:00 am. But the thing is sometimes its really hard to jump out of bed an get goin on ejercicios, so we have learned a lot of excercises that you can just do laying on the ground! One of them we made up. You take a biiig waterbottle full of water and you kinda bench press it (super easy) but hermana moffett wanted to try something different- so she started throwing it and catching it, throwing it and catching it- higher and higher.... but then she threw it adn she didnt catch it! It fell on her faceee! Oh my word, thats the last time were doing that one. But she had herself a nice purple mark right on he rcheek. Were putting the bottles away for a bit.

2. Alexandra got baptized! Shes not an investigator, but her mom was suuuper menos activa for a while and she was recently reactivated. So we visited them alot and Tania (the mom) is just so great. She always jsut tells us how much happier she is with the Gospel in her life and how it has really changed her as a person for the better. They are a really special family and I have really seen how the Gospel isnt just for peopel- but its for families.

TORITOS!!!
3. We found some really cool people that want to listen to us- AND- they came to church! Im not really sure how it is in other misiones, but here they have to go to church for all three hours to count as one asistencia, and to get baptized they need to go three sundays for all three hours. Here our church starts later so the third hour cuts riiight into almuerzo, and here almuerzo is sacred. SO really if someone comes and stays for all three hours theyre special. We didnt have anyone going to church when i came, so we were really kinda starting from ground 0. But poco a poco we have been seeing the fruits of our labors and have been having more and more imvestigators coming for all three hours of church. Its hard, but nothing easy was ever worth it in the long run.

Also this past 5 weeks we have been having a competition with the elders in the district to see who could have the most invitaciones con fecha. And guess who won..... WEEE DIIID!  So we all went to toritos and they had to pay for our food (suuper yummy mexican food). But also there were tons of blessing that we got from the contest- not just the yummy food!

Well, I really dont remember much else, the mission is great. its hot and hard, but its great nonetheless.
The church is true, thats one thing I know for sure with all my heart!
Les quiero!

Las Jardines - Week 3

February 16, 2016

F E L I Z   D I A   D E   A M I S T A D ! ! !

I hope you all had lovely sundays with your friends and loved ones- but also kept the sabbath day holy!

Honestly this week I cant remember much of what happened this week...
The highlight was probably when Brillit finally came to church for all three hours! (We can only count the asistencias for their baptism if they are there for the full three hours- and she was!) Brillit is so great. She has been listening to the missionaries off and on for about a year but has never gone to church. So we started visiting her again and teaching her. A while ago we had a training with Elder Uceda (the area president) and he said that a sucessful missionary will "hacer cosas" -do things- with your investigators. SO thats what we did. We read the Book of Mormon with her, we got her a cute colored pencil to help her mark her scriptures, we have kneeling prayers with her, and this sunday we went by and went to church with her. WEve learned how important the compromisos are for the investigadores but its so much more important to apply the compropisos to ourselves to be examples and friends and to really help the people understand the importance of reading teh scriptures, going to church, and praying daily. Its cool to see how the gospel changes people, and to see the changes that the gospel has made in me- but only when we apply the things we learn, and apply them with faith.

Also we got locked in internet for like an hour the other day. That was not fun. We had to go for 5 minutes to write our family to tell them thaq twe werent going to email monday and the lady left for some reason and locked the gate so we couldnt leave! That was fun to explain when we finally got to our citas.

Also in our ward we have a residential crazy lady. Im not really sure if she is a member or just some random lady. But she is there every sunday adn doesnt go to any classes- just sits in the sacramental for 3 hours. So this sunday we went in to the sacramental cause we forgot a paper in there and a joven gave me a coin (like 20 cents) and told me that it was from the crazy lady and that I should give it to the bishop. SO we took it and went to find someone to give it to, but then she found us and started yelling at us and told us that that money belonged on the pulpit, and like crossed me with her hand (yeah- i guess she want a member..) and told us that we needed to kneel down and repent. She was crazy... and a little scary too... But shes a daughter of God nonetheles....
Also they put me incharge of a specail musical number for the zone for the multizona conferencia- why? I dont know. Nunca jamas. I thought it would be easy- but then I realized that I was working with just a bunch of elders. Asu machina. enserio- nuca jamas. But it turned out good.

This week was the best- every week is so great. The gospel brings happiness and love and hope and joy and every other good thing that you can think of. Its perfect and its for everyone!
Love you all so much- I miss ya, but theres no place id rather be right now than in the mision!
Les quiero!

Los Jardines - Week 2

February 8, 2016

Dear family and friends,
It has come to my attention that the Panthers have suffered a tragic loss. I would like to apologize for the damage that I have caused as a result of my #PantherPride
In Mormoni 8:36 we read "And I know that ye do walk in the pride of your hearts; and there are none save a few only who do not lift themselves up in the pride". Unfortunatly this week I was not one of the few who did not "lift themselves up in the pride"....  And just like the Nephites and the lamanites, in The Book of Mormon, when they got pridefull they always fell hard. So sorry for that.

Jk That wasnt my fault, the Panthers just need to #KeepPounding. Next year.
But seriously, dont be prideful. Thats when bad things happen...

This week was great, also it felt like forever! But a good forever :)
We contacted two girls this week and set up an appointment to visit them the next day. So we passed by for their house saturday and we knocked on the door and they let us in and there was a whole family inside waiting! Honestly at first I was a little nervous cause it was us (two gringas) and a whole family of 6 latinos. But then I remembered my power scripture (Just a little verse that helps me when im feeling nervous, worried, stressed, stuff like that) "Mirad hacia mi en todo pensamiento; no dudéis, no temais." ("Look unto me in every thought; doubt not, fear not.") D&C 6:36..... then I knew that everything would all be ok cause we were there on teh Lords errand. So we taught them el Libro de Mormon and it was beautiful. Seriously this family is so special. They understood everything that we said and things that they felt. En serio, amo esta familia. There are jsut so many little miracles that we see everyday, and they were definately one of them.

Haha also this week we were walking in the street with a memeber and some guy started yelling "Elders, Elders!" So we went over there and corrected him and started talking to him. He let us into his house and we taught him a lesson and then when we finished he jumped up and started rummaging through all his pants looking for a little piece of paper with a question that he has del Libro de Mormon, So he found it and asked us it CHina was the chosen land of God and told us that it says that in "our bible". Then we explained that it doesnt say that in there and so then he asked us "Well what does Eter 1:26 say?" So we opened it up and he wanted us to explain it to him. it says "Het era hijo de Com" (It was just the geneology of Eter...) and so we explained to him that they were just the family of Eter, but he said "But whaat does that mean..." and on his little paper it said "Com" so then he pointed at his papaer and said "Look it says right here "com"" Uhhh huuuu.... So than I asked him why it said Com... and he said "I dont know....." Hahah yeah nosotras tampoco! I think he wanted to argue with us but he forgot what he wanted to argue about. He really is a great person, he just confused himself a bit.

Also there is this dog that lives over by our house. Hes our good friend, and he always likes to walk with us. So sunday we got up and we were on our way to church and he got up and started walking with us. We got to church adn went in the capilla AND HE FOLLOWED US! Into the capilla! There was a ward having their sacrament meeting in the capillia and then a dog walked right in! Thank heavens it didnt go in the room, just right ourside the door. So we left to have it follow us out- and it did. But then we came back in and if just followed us back in! Three times! And by this point there were a bunch of poeple from the sacrament meeting watching us! Que vergüenza! Eventually someone helped us escape our puppy friend. He distracted the dog and we snuck in the capilla without him seeing us!

Yeah so this week was great! Lots of work and lots of miracles!
Love yall so much!
The church is true, the book is blue and Moroni's on the ball!

With love from Lima

1. Superbowl sunday- we visited a family and they were all geared up for the game! Really they knew nothing about it, but I dont believe in coincidences.
2. Also sunday we had lunch with a member who had a giant panther. Coincidence? I think not!...... this may have been when I was being a bit pridefull...

Las Jardines - Week 1

February 2, 2016

Me and Hermana Moffet, my new greenie!
Hello family and friends. I have been transferred toooooo.... SAN JUAN DE LURIGAUNCHO! ALso here I am finishing the training of Hermana Moffet (from UT)! You can just call me Hermama Scarlett.
SHes a sweetheart and hilarious!

I think my family back home knew that I would be training before I actually knew. We got the call monday night and I FREAKED OUT. Oh my word I was a stress ball. But its all ok. Just this past week I wrote to president about cambios (before we knew the cambios) And said that where ever I go and who every I am with its for a reason. Then we got the call, and I thought that president might have lost his mind. But then I remembered what I told president. There is a reason for where I am going to be and who I am going to be with.  Im here in Los Jardines 1 (my sector) with hermnaa moffet for a reason. So im just gonna FAITH it till I make it.

This area is suuuper different. We are right on the limits of the mission- we have a road in our sector and if you cross it youre in Mision Lima Norte. Also here there is a ton of dirt and dust. We are far away from the mar so it is also really dry here, and there are no big buildings like there were in Magdalena so the sun is a lot stronger here. But its a great place.

I really cant tell you too much about the people here yet cause I dont know that many- but the ones that I have met are angels and just so sweet.

We found one menos activa and we talked to her for a bit and then we asked her to say a prayer and she said a sweet prayer but when she ended she just said "amen" and so I kinda peeked at her and whispered "In the name of Jesucristo, amen" So she could end it right so then she was like "Yeah ok, en el nombre de Jesucristo de los santos de los últimos días, amen " Haha shes cute, were gonna work on that.

Also the second day I got here H Moffet got sick :( So we were in the house for a bit. But she is better now and we are back to a good pace and workin hard!
I really dont have that much more to say!
Heres a quote that I love from Our Search for Happiness, by M. Russell Ballard
"And an interesting thing happens whenever you attempt to place your feet in Christs footsteps. If you really concentrate on trying to walk the way He walked- loving, caring, serving, and obeying, each step of the way - one day youll look up and discover that His path has led you directly to the throne of God."
This is my goal. to walk the way He walked. To follow in his footsteps and do all that I can to help others come to this knowledge- that only through Christ can we live with our Heavenly Father again. I love this gospel and I love Christ and all the He has done for me through His infinite love.

Love you all and I pray for you often!

Las Brisas - Week 24

January 25, 2016

Dear people,

It has recently come to my attention the the Panthers have a 17-1 record this season and will be advancing to the Superbowl in 2 weeks. We can look at this and really see all the blessing that we recieve from missionary work. Families are being blessed thanks to the missionaries from North Carolina that have decided to serve missions, and now the Panthers are going to the Superbowl. Miracles do exist, you´re welcome.

Just kidding! But how exciting is that! WOOOHOOO!! People here are gonna get sick of me real quick!

Haha but this week has been really great. We always have super weird experiences, frustrating experiences, sad, and every other emotion in between. I really have discovered emotions here in the mission that I never knew existed before.
We are doing a lot of finding from contacting, the carpeta de area, and from member refrences!
We found this old man named Jamie (from the carpeta) and we went to his house and he let us in real quick and we talked to him for a good bit about the church and about the Book of Mormon, and just our basic principles that we live by. Hes so cute. Every time we said something or bore testimony he would say "Exactly! Thats exactly right! Why are there not more people that believe this and more importantly act on their beliefs?!" Then we invited him to be baptized and ha said "Seria maravillosa!" (That would be marvelous). Hes great.
Actually this week we spent a lot of time with different old people.
A member presented us to his old lady friend that always hands out in the park and likes to sing. SHe is cute, her name is Clair- her family is from Francia, she only told us at least 20 times. ALso she was a saprano back inthe day in some prestegous choir. She mad a song up about me and sang it to me. She compared me to a rose and sang about my eyes and how im so beautiful- it was very interesting. Then we sacked a cita with her and i went to kiss her cheek good bye and she grabbed my face and drew a cross on it with her thumb (kinda like simba from the lion king) and then gave me several grandmotherly pats on the cheek. Were gonna go sing with her next week.

Yeah so this week wa had a toooon of citas- but the majority of them fell through. That was a little rough. But the thing is that not everything is always going to go perfectly like you planned it. Thats not life. But we just have to make the best out of every situación and look for, and work for, the blessings that are there. So when our citas fell through, thats when we found osme really great contacts, when we found little acts of service, antiguos investigadores that maybe now is their time. Its really easy to let these things get you down and let it impede the work, but easy is hardly ever the best. WHen it gets hard, work harder, make your day great.Thats something that ive really learned alot in the mission- to take the lemons, put in some work, and make some lemonade.

I love you all so so much and youre in my prayers. I hope you have the best week every and are able to turn some lemons into lemonade!

With Love from Lima,
Hermana Scarlett

photos.
1. probably my last day en Historia Familiar- probas gonna have a transfer
2. A noche de Hogar with My Las Brisas Grandparents- Hermana Arce and her husband (arce actually means maple tree in spanish- who knew?) Hes the cutest old man. When ever he tries to shake my hand we play "dodge hand" and I just move my hand around until he gets it. HAhah then during stake conference he came up to me and I did that then after that he pointed at my shirt (like i had something on there) and then he did that thing where he zips his finger straight up your face when you look down! Hes crazy! Theb he grabbed me and gave me a big hug, so funny and a little bit uncomfortable and then I realized that President was there and a tpon of other missionaries! HAha but it was funny

Las Brisas - Week 23

January 18, 2016

Ok so this week, lets seee. It is a billion degrees here and sometimes the streets smell like fecies. Actually its really not a bilion degrees, but its still pretty hot. And only some streets smel like yuck, others smell like bread, so thats nice.

We had 2 specail confrences with Elder Uceda. He is the area general authority, and also he is our bishops dad! Funny story- one sunday a few weeks into the mission I sat right next to him and just thought that he was a normal member. Then (like 3 weeks later) I realized who he was.... dang.. He talks to the profet! And I sat next to him! ...but i didnt realize it... but it happened nonetheless!- Anywyas hes about the coolest, and his life is so interesting. I want to read his biography. He has basicaly been with the church in Peru almost since the beginning. He was baptized into the first stake in Peru, which was in Lima. And now he is finishing organizing the 101 stake in peru!
Yeah so this guy is a spiritual giant and I cant even beging to explain all that I learned and felt when we were with him so im just gonna leave it at that. Oh but we all had the oppurtunity to shake his hand and tell him where we were from. I told him I was from north carolina and he was like "Cooooooolll" (His english is perfeect) He didnt say anything to the ones from Utah 😋

Also this week we found some interesting people.
We found a lady  in our carpeta de area and we went and visited her and pretty much the fiirst thing she said was "awh you look like a little cat" to hermana Deppe and then she got super serious and told us that there might be an earthquake any day cause she read about it on some religous page on the internet, and it there was we have to grad on to a pole cause the earth will open and then the it will eat us cause there is LAVA! Shes a specail one. Were never gonna have a boring lesson with her.

Also we have been finding some really cool people to teach. One guy is named Jhonathan and we taught him about the Book of Mormon one day and we shouwed him the picture of the people being baptized in the fron of the book and we ased him what he saw. He told us that he saw a man and a woman bathing together in a river and thet there was another girl that was leaving the river all wet cause seh was embarrased adn that there were peopel fighitin and that the people bathing in the river were waiting for something from heaven. Hahah Ive never heard that one before. Haha then I said... Actualllly no. Its a baptism.... I really almost lost it! But hes a cool guy and wants to get baptized, so hats great

I found this quote this morning when I was reading a talk called "Turn to Him and Answers WIll Come" by Elder James B. Martino.
"Am I as close to living like Christ as I was before?"
Hot dang, that hit me. That is something That I am trying to work more and more on every day. to always evaluate myself to see where I am at adn to always remember the goals that I have and to try and continually be more like my Savior. As I have been doing this I have been able to recognize more and more blessings that I have in my life and really see rogress that I am making. We should all think about the end point. Where do we want to go? And then realize that we can get there through Christ. ANd then act, bit by bit day by day, and eventually we will get there and we will have Christ with us every step of teh way.
Love you all and I love this gospel!

Las Brisas - Week 22

We had to do a jump picture!!
Parque de Las Aguas
January 11, 2016

This week was great. We worked our hineys off and it was great- not that we don't anyways. We started a 40 day fast in our zone of things that could be holding us back from our full potential as missionaries. A lot of the stuff that I am fasting from are just tiny things that have really been making all the difference. My posture while im praying, organizing my study desk every night before bed so its ready in the morning. "... Y así vemos que por pequeños medios el Señor puede realizar grandes cosas." (1Nefi 16:29) We are finding more and more people to teach and we are seeing little miracles every day.

One of these people that we found is named Guliano and he is the coolest! I really feel like back in his day he was pretty thug. I mean hes not old, maybe like late 30´s, but yeah he definitely has some thug in him. But it was funny cause a lot of times there are people that like to say stuff to us (por ejemplo, on the way to internet today some guy looked at me and kinda shouted ¨Everlasting love!¨ or new years eve there was a group of older men that were saying ¨Look! The angels have fallen from heaven!¨ But its really funny cause their pronunciation is really bad.) but anyways there is this group of jóvenes (young men) that always yell hellloo gringaas just to try and bother us a bit, But Guliano knows them! Anyways we met him at his house and walked across the street to the park and this group of jóvenes saw and yelled something and Guliano was like ¨Hey! Im trying to listen to the word of God! You guys should probably do that too!¨ It was really funny and Guliano is cool and has lots of interest and wants to learn more. ALso now were in with the thuggies on the block.

One thing that I was studying this week was about Grace. A lot of time when we think about the grace that our Heavenly Father and Jesucristo have for us we tend to think that when we put in all that we can that they will be there to make up the difference. That is true but that is not all. They aren't just there waiting for us at the finish line- or almost at the finish line waiting to help us finish- they are with us every step of the way. There are there to help us in the beginning, middle, and end. They know us and love us and want us to become the best that we can be- they want us to achieve the potential that they see in us. We can achieve this only through grace. Through the Atonement of Jesucristo. I love this Gospel and all the blessings that I have through it.
The mission is super hard but so far it has been one of the best decisions that I have made.
Les quiero mucho!

Las Brisas - Week 21

New Years Eve with Hermana Flor - our Mission Mom <3
January 4, 2016

Im getting worse and worse about remembering what happens every week.

We had NEW YEARS!! It was lots of fun. We had permision to stay at Hermana Flors house until  12.20. At 12 the whole sky exploded! It was AWESOMMMEE! We had so much! But then we went home and watch for a bit longer from our roof and then we hit the hay around 1. The next day we had Pday as a zone and went to Larco Mar, which is like the beach. Also it is suuper classy and touristy. It was beautiful and clean and it was almost like I never even left the US! Also we played the game "are they whiter than us?" Where we basically just evesdropped on all the white people we saw to figure out how white they really were, mostly based off their spanish. It was fun, made me feel a bit better about my spanish. Also I met this lovely couple from fort mill and we had a nice chat about the carolinas.
Larco mar is above the beach so we played sports on the beach for a while and then walked up to larco mar to eat. It was probably the equivalent of walking the great wall of china. There were so many stairs and it was all up hill. And it was about 500 degrees. but the food was good. We had Burger King. Just like the States.

Also nobody wants to be in Lima during the holidays so almost every single one of our investigators is in some other part of Peru. But that was just a blsessing in disguise casue we are finding alot of really cool people that are interested in our message. But we had two investigators that stayed here. One id Guillermo and the other is Antuonet. Antuonet has classes every sunday from 9 to 12, and gues what time church is at 9 to 12. So thats definately from the adversary. But they are both great and just really want to learn more.

Also I got my package that mom sent to me about 16 weeks ago! I had to walk all over Magdalena (mostly cause we got lost) looking for the ser post. But then we found a dunkin doughnuts on the way back and shared some with the elders in the offices (cause we had to walk all the way to the serpost and then back to the office to drop off my ID card) We are deinately the coolest hermanas in the mision. Yeah so that was our super jumbled confusing week.
I love the holidays but im glad that they only happen once a year cause they are exhausting and im just ready to get back to a normal schedule.
I hope this email kinda makes sense. If not, just know that the mision is great and im loving every crazy second of it. The church is true folks!

Las Brisas - Week 20

December 28, 2015

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Haha yesterday we found one of the members walking in the street and he saw us and he shouted "HEY MY WHITE PEOPLE!" haha hes a funny one.

Well this week was christmas! It was great to talk to my family adn to spend christmas with my Peruvian family! CHristmas eve our pensionista took us out to get lunch at a nice restaurant. They are the sweetest. And then afterwards we had a bad of little goodie bags that we went and passed out to all the children in the street. Its like a tradition here to give to the people who really need it on christmas eve. Its really sweet- and an eye opener.

Then christmas eve night we had permision to be out until 12:20 in a members home and we had so much fun. Its a tradition here to eat a big dinner christmas eve night at 11 and then thees a countdown- like new years eve- till christmas day at 12! Then at 12 everyone in Peru lights off all their fireworks and the sky looks like it is on fire! SO coool! We had so much fun!

But this week was a little hard to visit people cause everyone was busy adn didnt have any time. ANd here you have to go throught a gate and then like 2 more doors to get into peoples houses. ANd they have stupid little buzzer intercom things so it just makes it more easy to tell us no! But thats ok, I know this church is true and there are people waiting to hear this gospel and every "no" is just one step closet to a "yes"!

I love you all so much and thanks for all the christmas wishes!

Las Brisas - Week 19

December 21, 2015

F E L I Z   N A V I D A D ! ! !

Oh man Im so ready for Christmas! And im just so more excited that im going to be spending it here in the mission with all the people that I have come to love so so much!

THis week was great! Our investigator Hans finally got baptized! But oh my word it was a process! It was really cool cause I got to see him through the whole entire experience from when we found him all the way up to his baptism and to infinity and beyond! Just kidding, hopefully Im not in this sector for that long (not that I dont love it- its the best!) BUt hes really come a long way, and now he is our Gospel Principles class president! Hes a funny dude, and our ward mission leader is like his adopted church dad and was able to baptize and confirm him. Its just really nice to see the fruits of our labors and to really see the changes that this gospel can bring to those that truely choose to follow Christ.

But hey yall THIS WEEK IS CHRISTMAS! Also here its like 500000 degrees so it doesnt even feel like it- except for Peruvians have a real knack at finding some of the tackiest christmas decorations and then handing the up EVERYWHERE! Its great. ALso we decorated our pensionistas- Sisi- house for chrismas! It was fun she like our mom~/aunt/older sister.

Im so excited for all the fun christmasy things, the food, the gifts and everything in betweent, but what I love the most about this time of year is that we get the opportunity to share the beautiful message about the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ with everyone. He was born in the most humble of circumstances and lives the most perfect life of love for us, for every single individual child of God. He gave us the most precious and beautiful gift that we cant get anywhere else. His grace, His mercy, and His love. So when we are opening up our presents under the tree we should reflecton the real gift tha was given to us. A savior and Redeemer of the world!

I love you all soo sooo much and send all my love this christmas season! Enjoy every part of it and eat all kinds of fatty american yumy christmas food for me and Ill eat all the Peruvian christmas food for you!
Also go to christmas.mormon.org and watch the video! Itll change everything!

Love you all so much! Thanks for all the Christmas wishes!
